The notorious Anonymous hacker known as Commander X — whose real name is Christopher Doyon — was arrested in Mexico on Friday, June 11, and immediately extradited back to the United States, U.S. authorities announced Monday, June 14.

Doyon, who was allegedly the face of the international activist movement that conduced numerous cyber attacks on governments around the world, was originally arrested and indicted in Santa Cruz, California, in 2011, but skipped bail and apparently fled first to Canada and then to Mexico, where he had been living until now.

On Friday, Doyon was arrested by Mexican immigration authorities in Mexico City and immediately deported to the United States, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.

The following day, he was arrested by the FBI and on Monday, Doyon appeared before Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu in Oakland.

He will be tried in California, authorities said.
