New reports have revealed that Mexico’s in-power National Regeneration Movement (Morena) has been spurred on by nine out of 10 of its polling representatives apparently accessing benefits from at least one of the nation’s social programs, a figure high above the average number of welfare beneficiaries across the country.

According to data obtained by Mexican daily newspaper Reforma from the Sirena (National Electoral Registry and Information System) and Sider (Comprehensive Regional Development System), a further six out of 10 of the polling workers likewise have received a Microcredit for Wellbeing from Mexico’s Secretariat of Welfare.

The main social programs used by the 7,800 Morena polling representatives were Production for Wellbeing, Livestock Credit to the Word and Youth Building the Future and Microcredits, with some 57 percent of the representatives that took part in the elections last June receiving these 10,000-peso Microcredit benefits.

This stands in stark contrast to the rest of the country, where only 2.2 percent of Mexico’s 11 million-plus social program beneficiaries receive this Microcredit support.
