Pamela Turns into Category 1 Hurricane, Heads Toward Jalisco

Tropical storm Pamela strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday, Oct. 12, as it moved toward the Mexican Pacific, and could reach a Category 3,forecasters said.
The 16th named storm of the 2021 East Pacific hurricane season, Pamela, is expected to make landfall sometime on Wednesday, Oct. 13, as a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 96 miles per hour and then move north at 13 miles per hour.
If it reaches winds of 120 miles per hour, it will be considered a Category 3 and potentially life-threatening.
The latest forecast track shows Pamela hitting near Mazatlán, Jalisco, Wednesday.
If Pamela reaches Category 3 strength, it will be the second major hurricane of the year to make landfall in Mexico.
Hurricane Grace arrived over land in Mexico in August.
