Trouble in Paradise: Dos Bocas Workers Go on Strike

Construction work at one of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO) three pet projects, the Dos Bocas oil refinery in Paraiso (Paradise), Tabasco, came to a sudden standstill Tuesday, Oct. 12, when more than 5,000 construction workers at the site went on strike.

The workers are demanding that the ICA Dos Bocas workers go on strike The workers demand that the ICA Flour construction company, which was commissioned to oversee the work, improve their current working conditions.

Since early Tuesday morning, the disgruntled workers began circulating videos of their protest on social media.

Some of the construction workers said that they are frequently forced to work extra hours without overtime pay, and have been threatened with dismissal if they complain.

Others have reported not being able to have access to their jobs for protesting.
