According to data from the PetroIntelligence platform, gas prices throughout Mexico rose by a total of 20 percent from December 2020 to the week of Oct. 18, 2021, impacting transportation costs and the pocketbooks of the Mexican consumer.
While one liter of gasoline was registered at national average of 18.52 last December, this week’s pricing puts a single liter at 22.33 pesos, with ranges across the country between 21 and 24 pesos.
Prices have surged so high in Mexico City that some stations are reportedly selling a single liter at 24.49 pesos.
PetroIntelligence Director Alejandro Montufar explained that much of the increase can be explained by the rise of gas and oil prices internationally, trickling down to Mexico’s own gas pricing.
