The Haitian government announced Friday, Nov. 19, that is will soon open a consulate office along Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala to help manage the increased migration of its citizens in that area.

The announcement comes after the number of undocumented Haitians crossing the U.S. border dropped in October and several new caravans of mostly Haitian and Central American migrants began heading north toward the United States this month.

Eventually, about 15,000 of those migrants were removed from the area by the Joe Biden administration and returned to Haiti.
