Mexico’s Most Famous Ranchera Singer Dies at Age 81

Mexico’s most famous ranchera music singer, Vicente Fernández, died Sunday, Dec. 12, at age 81, in a hospital in his home state of Jalisco.
He suffered a fall in August and had been hospitalized ever since.
Fernández was best known for his hit songs. “El Rey” and “Volver, Volver,” and for his impeccable mariachi suits with matching sombreros.
He was awarded three Grammys and nine Latin Grammys, and his music was revered internationally.
A musical vigil in his honor was held Sunday night at Guadalajara’s Arena VFG.
