Mexico’s Supreme Court late Wednesday, Dec. 14, overturned part of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO) presidential degree making all his administration’s megaprojects immune to public scrutiny.
In response to a legal challenge filed by Mexico’s National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal, a Supreme Court judge ordered the partial suspension of the decree that had declared all projects of the federal government as matters of national security and immune to transparency regulations.
As a result of the ruling, the federal government will not be able hide information that is requested about projects it carries out.
The suspension is effective immediately.
