An unmasked Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) appeared live in his daily presser Monday, Jan. 17, saying that he no longer had symptoms of covid-19 (which he was confirmed to have contracted for the second time exactly one week earlier).

During the conference, AMLO said that he “cleared” the covid contagion and was now feeling well.

“I am past the contagion period,” he said, adding that his case is evidence that the omicron variant “does not have the same severity as the previous one, the delta variant, in terms of symptoms and also in recovery time.”

The president also said that having been vaccinated and boosted against covid helped reduce the severity of his symptoms, saying all eligible Mexicans should get vaccinated.

López Obrador stated that he had already assumed his fulltime duties and is now able to have face-to-face meetings.
