Shots were reportedly fired inside Terminal 3 of Cancun’s International Airport on Monday, March 28.

The shots, apparently fired by a single assailant based on footage on social media, led to panic as dozens of people ran out of the terminal building, trampling others in the mayhem.

Local police and members of Mexico’s National Guard arrived shortly after the shootings, and the terminal was later evacuated by authorities.

After reviewing the premises, the National Guard reported the incident as a “false alarm,” although some witnesses claim that shots were indeed fired.

Cancun International Airport is Mexico’s second-busiest airport after Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport, receiving more than 22 million passengers annually.
