Mexican Formula 1 (F1) racer Sergio “Checo” Pérez won second place in the Australia Grand Prix race on Sunday, April 10, coming in just behind Charles Leclerc, who clinched his second win of the season on his home turf.
Following unexpected engine failure and the subsequent bursting into flame of Max Verstappen’s Ferrari on lap 39, Perez managed to push ahead aboard his Red Bull racer.
Verstappen, also of Red Bull, had been seen as the most likely winner of the race, with Leclerc expected to come in second.
