The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday, June 22, that it will import 1 million pounds of baby formula from Mexico beginning this weekend, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce a nationwide shortage caused by the closure of the largest U.S. baby formula manufacturing plant, owned by Abbott, earlier this year.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will transport the infant formula by trucks from a Nestlé plant to U.S. retailers, the White House said.
Cargo flights from Europe and Australia have already brought in baby formula to the United States, including two new air shipments slated for this weekend.
