Mexican choreographer Alberto de León and his Fenómeno Escénico dance troupe are slated to bring the rhythms of the Land of the Gauchos to Mexico City’s Guillermina Bravo Dance Theater over the weekend with a stunning tango and milonga extravaganza.
De León’s “The Hug” will be presented on Thursday, June 30, at 8 p.m.; Friday, July 1, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 2, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, July 3, at 6 p.m., as the first performance in Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature’s (Inbal) monthlong Universes of Dance season.
Inspired by the sounds and movement’s of Argentina’s Río Plata region, “The Hug” melds elements of tango and theater to create a contemporary celebration of dance and music.
The Guillermina Bravo Dance Theater is located inside the Centro Cultural del Bosque, at Avenida Reforma and Campo Marte s/n in Colonia Chapultepec.
