At least six police officers died early Sunday, June 26, during a shootout with armed individuals traveling in a convoy of about 10 armored trucks in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León, the state’s Security Secretariat said.

“Four more policemen were injured and are already receiving medical attention,” the secretariat said in a written statement.

The attack occurred between the towns of Lampazos and Colombia in the north of the state, where police were outnumbered by the attackers, who carried large-caliber weapons, according to the authorities.
