Next up on this gruesome list is Guerrero, with four murdered mayors, and Sonora, Guanajuato and Chihuahua with three murdered mayors each.
Chiapas, Jalisco, Puebla, Sinaloa and Morelos have each had two mayors killed, and Baja California, Coahuila, Hidalgo and Tamaulipas have each had one murdered.
Etellek reported that over the course of the last 22 years, 226 Mexican mayors have lost their lives in violent acts.
Of those 11 murders of mayors occurred during the entire administration of former President Vicente Fox, 49 during the entire administration of Calderón and 107 during the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto.
The remaining 59 cases have been registered so far during the government of López Obrador.
