After Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng met with Mexico’s Economy Secretary Tatiana Clouthier for bilateral trade talks in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Thursday, July 7, Ottawa expressed serious concerns about the current investment climate in Mexico, especially for the energy and mining sectors, as well as regards biotechnology development.
The one-day talks were intended to reaffirm both nations’ commitment to broadening trade and regional competitiveness.
Notwithstanding, after the meeting, Ng said that Canada “remains concerned” about the leftist administration of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO) ever-tightening restrains on private energy and mining investment, which have negatively affected Canadian companies.
