German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is due to pay a three-day state visit to Mexico starting on Monday, Sept. 19.
During his stay in Mexico, Steinmeier will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), as well as with legislators, other federal officials and members of the business communities in Mexico City and Guadalajara.
Germany is Mexico’s fourth-largest trade partner worldwide and its largest in Europe, , with a combined commercial exchange in 2021 of nearly $24.8 billion.
Germany also has accumulated holdings in Mexico amounting to nearly $30 billion, equivalent to 4.5 percent of Mexico’s total foreign direct investment (FDI).
A conservative member of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), Steinmeier is a career diplomat and politician who has held the mostly ceremonial position of German head of state since 2017.
