A massive fire was recorded in a wastewater pipeline near Mexico City’s Periférico Río de Los Remedios, in the capital’s Nezahualcóyotl municipality, in the early hours of Thursday, Nov. 17.

According to preliminary reports from municipal authorities, the fire started around 7:30 a.m. in a wastewater duct, but rapidly expanded across the area to six other drainage ducts.

By 9 a.m., flames had engulfed the entire neighborhood and traffic near Nezahualcóyotl and in neighboring Ecatepec had been closed in both directions, from Avenida León de los Aldama to Avenida Valle de Santiago.

Although the nearest houses are located about 30 meters away, as of late Thursday afternoon, residents had not yet been evacuated.
