Mexico’s conservative National Acton Party (PAN) on Monday, Jan. 16, filed a formal complaint against Interior (SeGob) Secretary Adán Augusto López Hernández before the National Electoral Institute (INE) for having used the secretariat’s offices to host a meeting of the leftist National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party.

Over the weekend, Morena governors met in a room inside the SeGob building in downtown Mexico City, in which the party’s leader, Mario Delgado, asked them to strengthen support for Morena presidential candidates in their respective states.

The PAN’s INE representative, Víctor Hugo Sondón Saavedra, filed the complaint against López Hernández for the improper use of public resources, “a flagrant misuse of the SeGob facilities,”

Sondón Saavedra said that the meeting showed that “neither the federal government nor the governors who attended, much less the national leadership of Morena, have the slightest political scruple in their actions and have used government spaces and resources in favor of their party and personal interests.”

He also stated that the meeting is evidence that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) is trying to influence the federal elections of 2024.

“The National Action Party demands that the INE put an end to these undemocratic acts by the federal government in favor of its party, since they generate impartiality in the contests to come and produce equity for the benefit of the party government.”
