At least seven people died and another was found injured on Saturday, April 15, in an armed attack at La Palma, a swimming resort in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, local government officials said in a statement.

The attack took place in the municipality of Cortazar, Guanajuato, on the last day of the spring school vacation period.

Upon arrival, the municipal security found the remains of three women, three men and one child under seven years old, along with the injured person who was taken to a hospital, the statement said.

Witnesses said a group of hitmen with automatic rifles arrived at the scene and opened fire.

Guanajuato authorities said an operation has been deployed in the area with public security forces and, as of late Sunday, April 16, no arrests had yet been reported.
