A Canadian man was shot dead earlier this week in the Mexican Pacific beach resort town of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, local authorities announced Tuesday, May 16.
The man, who was later identified as Víctor Masson, 27, from Quebec, was the second foreign tourist killed in that southern Mexican state in less than a week.
Masson was found dead in a car with a bullet wound in a neighborhood of Puerto Escondido where few tourists stay.
His death came just three days after another foreigner, Benjamín Gamond from Cordoba, Argentina, was fatally wounded in a machete attack in another coastal town in Oaxaca.
The two murders follow a surge of other tourist deaths this year in Mexico, including along the Riviera Maya in the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo.
