On Thursday, March 14, Guerrero State Governor Evelyn Salgado announced that Guerrero Secretary of Government Ludwig Marcial Reynoso Núñez and Secretary of Public Security Rolando Solano Rivera have resigned from their public positions in the wake of the murder of Ayotzinapa protestor, Yaqui Kothan Gómez Peralta.

Gómez Peralta was shot in the head by state police on Guerrero’s Chilpancingo-Tixtla bypass in the early hours of March 7, an incident which Reynoso Núñez and Solano subsequently attempted to cover up by claiming the protestor had confronted police officers, was on drugs and was caught with a stolen vehicle at a checkpoint – allegations all proven to be false after the fact.

“In an exercise of responsibility and contributing to a transparent process, I have received and accepted the resignations of the Secretary General of the Government, Ludwig Marcial Reynoso, and that of Public Security, Rolando Solano Rivera, and during the day we will announce the people who will be in charge of dispatching each department,” said Salgado at the time.

During her press conference, Salgado also revealed she had requested the resignation of Guerrero Attorney General Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón.

“I inform you that based on my constitutional authority I will notify teacher Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón of her removal from the position of Attorney General by carrying out the corresponding administrative and legal process at the time of giving notice to the state Legislative Branch,” added Salgado.

Salgado likewise informed the public that two other public officials purportedly involved in Gómez Peralta’s murder were apprehended on Thursday.
