Mexico City Meets Covid Vaccine Goal in Miguel Hidalgo

In an unprecedented effort to inoculate older Mexicans against the covid-19 coronavirus, Mexico City registered a record 81,500 residents over age 60 of the upscale Miguel Hidalgo precinct immunized during a one-week period, city officials announced Sunday, March 14.

On Sunday, the capital government completed its vaccination campaign in Miguel Hidalgo, immunizing a total of 2,203 people with the Pfizer covid-19 vaccine at the Campo Marte military base and another 437 people at the Benemérita Escuela Nacional de Maestros.

During the Phase 3 vaccine administration program .. which included the precincts of Miguel Hidalgo and Azcapotzalco — the city hopes to administer a total of 165,556 vaccines, according to government officials.

The city government will continue to administer vaccinations this week in Azcapotzalco precinct.

So far, Mexico has administered 4.3 million doses of covid vaccines nationwide.

Thanks in part to the ongoing vaccine efforts and city-endorsed health protocols, Mexico City remains at the orange-level low infection rate classification, while over the weekend, Sonora joined Campeche and Chiapas as the Mexico’s only three green-level low rate states.

Notwithstanding, the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread nationwide and the country is rapidly approaching 200,000 deaths from the disease.
