Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei is set to visit Mexico next week to meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) on Tuesday, May 4, to discuss the current migration crisis.
“Next Monday the president of Guatemala will arrive in Mexico,” AMLO announced during his daily press conference on Tuesday, April 27.
“I have information indicating that he has already met with the vice president of the United States (Kamala Harris) to discuss the immigration issue.”
The president said that he is maintaining ongoing talks with the heads of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras on a number of pressing issues, including migration and his Sembrando Vidas tree-planting project, aimed at providing jobs for the Northern Triangle corridor, source of most of the current migration north toward the United States.
López Obrador is also slated to hold a virtual meeting with Harris on Friday, May 7, to discuss migration and the climate agreements established at the Paris summit.
