Mexico’s state-run oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) late Friday, July 2, reported a massive natural gas leak from the rupture of an underwater pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico.
The leak, which led to a gigantic fire on the water’s surface, occurred at the offshore Ku-Maloob-Zaap rig about 500 feet from a drilling platform.
In a Twitter statement Friday night, Pemex officials said that no one had been harmed in the accident and that its emergency crews had managed to bring the leak under control five hours later.
No further information was released.
