Mexican Interior (Gobernación, or Segob) Secretary Olga Sánchez Cordero announced Thursday, Aug. 26, that she will be resigning from that post to retake her seat in the Senate and to assume the next presidency of the country’s upper legislative house.
Sánchez Cordero was appointed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2018 and was the first woman ever to lead Segob.
Tabasco Governor Adán Augusto López, a man close to López Obrador, was named by the president as her replacement at Segob.
