Mexico’s state-owned and highly indebted oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reported a total of three separate fires across its various facilities — including it Texas-based Deer Park refinery — on Thursday, Feb. 23, leaving five missing and eight others injured as of Thursday evening.
At least five people were reported missing after a fire at a storage facility in the southern state of Veracruz sent three others to a hospital, Pemex said in a statement Friday, Feb. 24.
The cause of that fire has not yet been determined, it said.
Later Friday, Pemex also confirmed in that there had been a separate fire at another Veracruz refinery in Minatitlan, presumably from an oil runoff, injuring at least five.
The third fire on Thursday occurred at Pemex’s Deer Park refinery.
All three fires were fully extinguished by late Thursday night, Pemex said.
