Beloved Mexican TV Star Dead at Age 88

The much-beloved Mexican comedian and television star Xavier López, best known for his role as Chabelo, an oversized mischievous boy on a children’s program, died on Saturday, March 25, at age 88.

For more than 40 years, López starred in the weekly program “En Familia con Chabelo” (“In Family with Chabelo”) every Sunday in Mexico and parts of the United States.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, born to Mexican parents, López moved to Guanajuato with his family at age one and then moved to Mexico City, where he began his acting career.

López was buried on Sunday, March 26, in a small family ceremony.
