Sheinbaum Appoints Six New Cabinet Members

On Thursday, June 27, Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum announced six additional appointments to her presidential cabinet.

Sheinbaum’s new nods include Luz Elena González Escobar, the former Mexico City Secretary of Finance, as Mexico’s Secretary of Energy and current Secretary of the Economy Raquel Buenrostro Sánchez as the Secretary of Public Service.

The President-elect also tapped Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina as the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport, Edna Elena Vega as Secretary of Agrarian, Land, and Urban Development and David Kershenobich as Secretary of Health.

Rogelio Ramírez de la O, the current Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) of Mexico was also set to be introduced as Sheinbaum’s SHCP secretary during the announcement, but was unable to make the event.

 “They are all incorruptible people,” said Sheinbaum at the time.

The cabinet is set to begin their positions when Sheinbaum takes office on Oct. 1.
